Alberg breaks ground on Family Clubhouse, joins regional solid-waste district and advances infrastructure projects

Alex McCracken, a select board member for the town of Alberg, gave a town update highlighting recent infrastructure, public-service and economic-development work.
McCracken said the Alberg Family Clubhouse has broken ground and is expected to open in fall 2025. "It will create childcare for 62 children from infant to elementary school aged and create at least 15 quality jobs for the region," McCracken said, describing the long effort by volunteers, local partners and state and federal funders that brought the project to construction.
Why it matters: area leaders and business owners have repeatedly cited childcare shortages as a barrier to workforce participation and business growth. McCracken said the clubhouse will relieve local childcare scarcity and act as an economic driver for the town.
Other town actions and context
- Northwest Solid Waste District: Alberg joined the district and leased its transfer-station property to the district while retaining ownership; McCracken said the change reduced town operating costs and increased resident services after the district assumed operations in December.
- Infrastructure and ARPA funding: McCracken said the town used more than $250,000 in grant and ARPA funds this year for projects including park improvements, blacktopping a town park (now used as an ice rink in winter and multiuse space in summer) and upgrades to utilities and town buildings.
- Free resident access to Alberg Dunes State Park: the town maintained free access for town residents in 2025 and cited that as an important local amenity.
- Town administration: McCracken said a town administrator position added roughly two years ago has materially improved operations. "The amount of burden it's taken off of the select board ... has been enormously valuable to kind of move us into ... a more modern town structure," he said.
McCracken invited questions and offered to share his slideshow; he also said hiring for an executive director at the clubhouse will begin soon. The update drew praise from other commissioners and staff for local volunteer persistence and project tenacity.
