Bay District Schools wins Cognias 2025 Innovation and Impact Award

Bay District Schools received the 2025 Innovation and Impact Award from Cognia, school officials said at the Bay District School Board meeting Feb. 11 at the Nelson Building.
Cognia presented the award in recognition of an institution that "has carefully identified the need for change by reviewing data and collaborating with stakeholders, including teachers and students, to create a strategic plan," Dr. Nicole Reeves, the districts strategic planning facilitator, wrote in remarks read aloud at the meeting.
The award honors districts that document improvement efforts and plan for sustainability, the statement read. Bay District officials said the citation recognized the districts recently completed strategic planning process and the districts move to formalize processes for implementing and monitoring change.
Cognia is an international accreditation organization that, board members noted, has been accrediting U.S. schools since 1895. District staff said this was the first time Cognia had presented the Innovation and Impact Award to Bay District Schools.
The plaque and statement were presented to the board on behalf of Superintendent (not specified) and the board; district representatives Elena Simmons and Christina accompanied the presentation. Board members paused the full agenda for a short break after the recognition portion of the meeting.
