County staff reported progress on the senior real-estate tax relief program and reminded residents of upcoming in-person pop-up events and the March 31 application deadline.
The administrator said the county has received a little over 13,000 applications to date; staff have approved 3,287 applications so far after manual review. Staff mailed reminder postcards to property owners to increase awareness, noting postcards were sent to all property owners because tax bills often go to mortgage companies and some owners may otherwise not receive notice. The administrator said pop-up assistance events are scheduled for March 11 (Northland Shepherd's Center, Gladstone) and March 29 (county annex), and that in-person submissions close at 4 p.m. on March 31; online applications will be accepted through midnight on March 31.
Staff asked the commission to help spread the deadline reminder and said the final, certified annual settlement report from the collector will be returned for commission approval after the preliminary report included in the meeting packet.
