Pipestone County HR staff told the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 28 that the county’s top candidate for a highway maintenance position declined the offered position and that the county will extend an offer to a second candidate.
HR staff Carrie said the top candidate “declined” because the combined effect of taxes, property values and external factors made the offer unworkable for the candidate, who lives near Brandon, South Dakota. Carrie told the board the county has a strong second candidate and that administrators planned to extend that offer the same day.
Carrie also said the office has been busy with routine end-of-year processing — "1095s and W-2s" — and noted an upcoming committee review of the county’s HR system for possible updates. No formal board action was recorded on the hiring step at the Jan. 28 meeting; the administration will proceed with an offer to the second candidate.
