Pipestone County staff member announces resignation; interviews planned for facilities manager role

A county staff member told the Pipestone County Board on Feb. 11 that he tendered his resignation and that the county will begin scheduling interviews to fill the facilities manager position.

During personnel updates, the staff member said the facilities-manager posting drew about 12 applicants and that roughly half appeared well qualified. "I'd like to start scheduling interviews as soon as possible," he said, and added he would coordinate interview schedules with commissioners. He also reported a secondary highway hire "accepted, and he will be starting on the 20 fourth," and said the county will post the facilities manager position publicly.

The staff member said he tendered his resignation on the prior Friday and mentioned he knows HR peers outside Pipestone County who might be candidates; he emphasized he would not recommend anyone he judged an ill fit. "I won't recommend someone if I don't think they'll be a good fit," he said.

Why it matters: Turnover in facilities and human-resources-related roles can affect county operations and recruitment timelines. The staff member said he believes bringing in someone with HR experience would benefit the county and that the county will formally post the vacancy.

The board did not take a formal vote on hiring at the meeting; commissioners agreed to proceed with scheduling interviews and to post the vacancy. The staff member thanked commissioners and said he has "enjoyed working with all of you guys."
