Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment elect Charlie Loboda chair and Brad Solman vice chair

On Feb. 12 the Cook County Planning Commission conducted its annual election of officers and selected Charlie Loboda as chair and Brad Solman as vice chair. The commission then opened a brief Board of Adjustment meeting and nominated the same officers for that panel.

The commission moved to nominations after introductions and a staff presentation of bylaws. A motion nominating Charlie Loboda for chair was seconded and approved by voice vote. A subsequent nomination of Brad Solman for vice chair was likewise seconded and approved. The Board of Adjustment held a separate, short election at the end of the meeting and also approved Loboda as chair and Solman as vice chair for that body.

Why it matters: the chair and vice chair preside over meetings, appoint subcommittees and have specified responsibilities under the Planning Commission bylaws; the vice chair acts in the chair's absence. The commission briefly reviewed the duties (bylaws Section 4.01) before taking nominations.

Commissioner Anne Sullivan read duties from the bylaws, noting the chair "shall have the following responsibilities ... preside at all meetings" and that the vice chair "act as chair in the event of the chair's illness, disability, absence."
