Cook County board agrees to write letter supporting Minnesota and National Sea Grant programs

The Cook County Board voted Feb. 25 to authorize a letter supporting the Minnesota and National Sea Grant programs after land services staff described recent technical assistance the program has provided on coastal hazards, native plantings and a zoning code audit for green infrastructure.
Neva, from county land services, described Sea Grant’s work on the Coastal Hazards of Lake Superior program and said Sea Grant professionals have provided engineers and regulatory coordination and have assisted county staff with outreach to landowners on stormwater and green infrastructure. She asked the board whether county staff could complete the Sea Grant advocacy form and submit a letter of support.
A commissioner moved that the county write a letter in support of the Minnesota and National Sea Grant programs; the motion received no recorded opposition and passed unanimously.
Neva said county staff have worked on local projects with Sea Grant that are not always visible to the public, including outreach for native plantings and a technical code audit done by a university expert that reviewed the county’s zoning ordinance for green-infrastructure opportunities.
The board did not specify further conditions; staff indicated they would complete the requested form and file the letter.
