Committee approves naming Sherman Parkway corner "Cameron’s Corner"

New Haven’s City Services and Environmental Policy Committee voted to approve an order designating the corner of Sherman Parkway and Harding Place as “Cameron’s Corner” to commemorate the life of Cameron Gale.
The measure, introduced on behalf of Alder Troy Streeter and read into the record by Chair Anna Festa, asks the Board of Alders to recognize Gale "as an official and reminder of her integrity, generosity, hope, and dignity," and includes a petition, a map and the required fee for a corner-naming application.
Anna Festa, chair of the committee, read the petition materials into the record on behalf of Ald. Streeter and said the paperwork submitted included neighbors’ signatures and the map showing the location. "I would like to respectfully submit to the New Haven Board of Alders the attached order proposing the corner Sherman Parkway and Harding Place be called Cameron's Corner to commemorate and honor the vibrant life of Cameron Gale," Festa said.
No members of the public spoke for or against the naming during the public comment portion. After a short committee discussion, a motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee closed public comment and approved the order on a voice vote.
The designation now moves to the Board of Alders for formal readings and any further procedural steps required by city rules for corner namings. The committee packet lists the order as LMDash20230651 and includes the petition, map and fee submitted by the applicant.
