Board attorney John Delaney briefed the board about the Florida Bar Association's thirteenth annual Teachers' Law Symposium in Orlando, a two‑day seminar for civics and social studies teachers that pairs educators with judges and lawyers. Delaney said the symposium is part of a statewide effort to enhance civics education and said he would share the materials he developed with the district's curriculum staff.
Delaney noted about 50 teachers attended the most recent conference and that the event grew from initiatives promoted by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Board members said they welcomed the materials; Delaney said he would coordinate with curriculum staff. The district's Teacher of the Year, Miss Anderson, was mentioned as someone who has expressed interest in civics resources and guest speakers.
