Board members reviewed a draft revision to School Board Policy 6.65, which addresses disciplinary and suspension procedures. Legal counsel advised the board that the draft "tracks the statutory language" and is similar to policies used elsewhere in Florida.
One board member asked whether provisions that list time commitments (in subsection a) are meant to apply to the broader Roman numeral I section or only to subsection a; counsel said the Roman numeral and the lettered subsection are connected and the draft mirrors the statute. "When you're getting into these type of termination decisions for employees as closely as you can stick with the statute, I think you're in a better position," counsel said.
The board did not take a vote in the workshop; the policy was placed on the evening agenda for later consideration.
