Town Manager Rich Coppola used his staff report to remind residents about recent property revaluation notices, update the council on a town hall elevator repair and report on weather the town is monitoring.
Coppola said Johnston County recently sent revaluation notices and that the county has posted three informational videos explaining the revaluation process; he directed residents to the Johnston County website for details. "This step right here is getting the properties revalued in terms of the current valuation, in the current market," Coppola said. He also explained that as the town proceeds through the FY26 budgeting process the town and county will consider a new tax rate and that staff will provide a revenue‑neutral rate comparison tied to the current 65¢ rate. He cautioned residents not to assume taxes will automatically rise by the percentage of the valuation increases and urged them to review the county materials.
Coppola told the council that the elevator at town hall had been out of service for roughly a month, that a delayed part has arrived, and that staff expect a Department of Labor inspection next week with hopes the elevator will be working by the end of next week.
On weather, Coppola said staff are monitoring a system that could arrive late Friday and that the town will consider measures if needed; he did not forecast impacts to town services at this time.
