Clayton Electric Department receives APPA mutual-aid commendation for storm responses

The Clayton Town Council recognized the Clayton Electric Department after the department received national commendations from the American Public Power Association for mutual-aid deployments to Shelby, North Carolina, and Orlando, Florida.
An electric department representative told the council that staff assisted with restoration after Hurricane Helene in Shelby beginning Sept. 28, 2024, and deployed five workers to Orlando on Oct. 11, 2024, to help restore power following widespread outages. The APPA mutual-aid program coordinates utilities and authorities during large outages and issues recognition to utilities that assisted neighbors in need.
Council members applauded the crews and said the deployments reflected well on the town. The presenter noted the mutual-aid recognition highlights Clayton’s role in the public-power community and thanked the electric staff for their service.
