Town media staff presented a special “Clayton For You” segment explaining two local road-name changes required by the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s redesignation of the US‑70 bypass to Interstate 42.
Joshua and Lydia, members of the town’s media team, said the renaming prevents duplication that would occur if an interstate and a state route shared the same number. The town will rename US‑70 Business as Clayton Boulevard and NC‑42 as Veterans Parkway, the presenters said, adding that the changes are intended to provide stable names for businesses, residents and emergency responders.
“Imagine calling for help and trying to explain whether you're on NC 42 or I 42. That's a split second decision that no one should have to make in an emergency,” Lydia said during the segment.
Separately, the town showcased a new mobile application called Clayton Live to promote programming at the Clayton Center performing arts venue. The presenters described the app as a way for residents to find performances, mark favorites, and view nearby dining and nightlife. The town’s communications staff encouraged residents to download the app and consult the town website for interactive maps and additional details.
Council members complimented the media team’s work and said the communications will help answer resident questions about the renaming and upcoming events.
