Micah, representing Calaveras County public works, told the Council of Governments on March 5 that several local bridge projects have progressed and that the county is preparing a five-year capital improvement program (CIP) for board consideration.
“Mongee River Road bridge project just completed,” Micah said, and he added the county is working on French Golds Bridge and Lang Creek Bridge. He said the RSSA project is currently on hold while staff work on redesigns and plan to bring the project back online in the coming month or two.
Micah said the county will present a five-year public works CIP to the board at the second meeting in April. The CIP will program projects for the next five years and identify opportunities to partner with the COG on regional efforts.
On construction timing, Micah said the county “just came out of winter suspension this week” and contractors have mobilized equipment, but recent and forecasted rain and snow have limited activity. He told the board the contractor is monitoring sites for flooding and washouts and that if heavy rain continues crews will need at least a week, and possibly longer depending on saturation, before equipment can resume work. Board members asked whether the project could restart by mid-April; Micah said schedules are updated weekly and that weather delays could push some work into the fall.
No formal action was taken; the update was informational and the board had no public comments on the item.
