Council narrows South Go Forth Road renaming process; will survey public on three nominees

The Kyle City Council on March 4 reviewed contest submissions to rename a constructed portion of South Go Forth Road that will not connect with the original Go Forth alignment and directed staff to run a public survey to select among three shortlisted names.
Melissa McCollum, chief development officer, said the city received about 300 contest submissions (roughly 208 unique names) and categorized entries to identify names without addressing conflicts. Staff highlighted a "green" list of names with no addressing conflicts and recommended further consideration. Council members proposed names from the dais, and several members argued for honoring local community leaders.
After discussion, the council voted 6‑1 to direct staff to issue a one‑vote‑per‑address survey presenting three name options with short bios — Paula Alvarez, Chevo Pastrano Sr., and Becky Silvera — and return with results and an ordinance for a public hearing. The mayor cast the single dissenting vote. Staff noted an ordinance and public hearing will still be required to finalize any renaming.
