The Olathe Board of Education recorded several formal actions during its March meeting, including the appointment of a deputy clerk, approval of consent and administrative items and a motion to move into executive session for negotiations.
Appoint deputy clerk The board voted 7–0 to appoint Suzanne Hastert as deputy clerk of the board of education for 2025. The motion on the record read: “Move to appoint Suzanne Hastert, deputy clerk of the board of education for 2025.” The motion was recorded in the meeting as moved by Missus Steele and seconded by Mister Keune; the roll call recorded seven affirmative votes and the motion carried.
Consent and administrative approvals The board approved consent items 6.01 through 6.02 on a 7–0 vote; the motion was made by Brad Boyd and seconded by Will Babbitt. The board then approved items 7.01 through 7.05 as presented on a 7–0 vote (motion by Missus Reagan, second by Missus Johan).
Apple device replacement (item 7.05) As part of the 7.01–7.05 bundle, the board approved a device‑replacement plan that moves to the newer iPad 11 platform and includes classroom charging solutions, keyboards, headphones and USB‑C to 3.5 mm adapters so existing headphone inventory remains usable. District staff (Mr. Humphrey) said the new iPad 11 solution released on the week of the meeting reduced forecasted costs, and the purchase includes classroom charging solutions to keep devices on site to reduce breakage.
Executive session The board voted 7–0 to enter executive session under the Kansas Open Meetings Act for the purpose of discussing employee negotiations; the board stated it would return at 8:20 p.m. The motion was moved by Missus Steele and seconded by Brad Boyd.
All recorded votes in the meeting were unanimous as documented by roll call in the transcript.
