Des Moines to close Redondo police storefront; staff relocated to main station

Police staff told the committee the storefront’s lease ran through March 31, so the city allowed the space to remain occupied through the lease term rather than terminating early. "Our lease for that property ran through March 31, so we didn't close it immediately on the end of the year and pay close fees," the police staff member said. Staff who previously worked out of the storefront — identified in the briefing as Monica (GPS co-responder), Corey (code enforcement officer) and Tanya (community service officer) — have moved back into the main PD building.
The landlord inspected the space and provided a list of repairs the city must complete before returning the keys. Police staff estimated move-related costs and repairs at about $5,000, with public works providing much of the labor and the department repurposing relatively new furniture and equipment elsewhere in the city. The city expects to return keys to the landlord by the end of the month.
