"I'm committed to all the work we have in front of us over the next 4 months, most importantly, the work leading up to the override in April and May," she said during the meeting.
Committee members praised Burrows' work during her tenure. The committee noted the timing of the resignation comes amid a fiscal challenge for the district: members said the district faces a structural budget deficit and rising costs that have prompted preparation for an override vote. The committee reported that it had met in executive session earlier in the day to review Burrows' request and the proposed early termination of her contract "at no additional cost to the district." The committee said it will begin plans to identify the next leader for Milton Public Schools and to keep the public informed about that process.
During committee remarks after the resignation motion, members emphasized continuity in district financial leadership, singling out Assistant Superintendent Katie Blake for her role in managing finances during the override period. The committee asked district staff to support outreach to voters and to continue preparing materials that explain the budget and what an override would fund.
The motion to accept Dr. Burrows' resignation passed on a roll-call recorded in the meeting: Amanda — yes; Bao — yes; Selena — yes; Mark — yes; Anna — yes; K. (chair) — yes.
The committee said Burrows will remain engaged in work through June 30 and that the committee and district staff will begin transition planning immediately.
