Commission clarifies library board authority, schedules work study on SB190 reapplication notarization and plans town halls

Library board authority: The commission clarified that the Christian County Library Board of Trustees does not report to the county commission and that the commission's direct role is appointment of trustees, citing the relevant state statute referenced during discussion (RSMo 182.050). The statement was offered to correct comments made at a recent library board meeting.

SB190 reapplication notarization: A constituent had raised concerns about requiring notarized signatures for Senate Bill 190 reapplications. Commissioners agreed to schedule a work study session to hear from the county collector, assessor and clerk about the current process and consider whether procedural changes are warranted. The collector reported fewer than five people had reported problems with notarization and that reapplication typically takes under 10 minutes, but commissioners expressed willingness to examine the process and compare neighboring Greene County practices.

Public engagement and town halls: Commissioners reiterated a monthly open‑forum series with the City of Ozark mayor held on the second Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Ozark Community Center following a senior‑citizens breakfast. They also said they will hold additional town halls in March (dates to be announced) in Ozark and Nixa and plan further meetings across the county to solicit constituent input on local priorities.

Closed‑session motion: The commission moved to go into closed session pursuant to RSMo 610.021(3) (personnel). A roll call was taken at the meeting; the roll call named the three commissioners present.
