The Corvallis School District (509J) board unanimously approved annual contract renewals for licensed personnel during a brief virtual special meeting on March 6, 2025, held to meet a March 15 contract-renewal deadline.
Board members moved quickly through the single agenda item after district staff answered a question about the relationship between contract renewals and staffing. “Contract renewals are separate from staffing,” said Jennifer, a district staff member. “So this is simply to indicate individuals would have a contract for employment the next school year. The staffing tied to budget is separate and will happen throughout the spring.” She added that if someone’s contract is renewed and there is a subsequent layoff, the employee would still retain job rights to the district.
The motion to approve the licensed personnel action, “including annual contract renewals as submitted,” was made by Shauna and seconded by Judah. The roll call vote recorded ayes from Shauna, Chris, Bernie, Therese, Judah, Sammy and Lou; the presiding officer announced the motion passed. No no votes or abstentions were recorded.
The meeting was convened at 6:38 p.m. and adjourned at 6:42 p.m. District staff noted the meeting was held virtually and that information about public comment, the board agenda and meeting recordings is posted on the Corvallis School District website and the district’s YouTube channel. No other agenda items were discussed.
The board did not take further action at the meeting regarding staffing levels or budget decisions; staff said those actions remain subject to separate notifications and decisions later in the spring.
