Council directs staff to fill hotel-motel advisory committee; hotel owner representation requested

Brookshire City Council members discussed reinstating and populating a hotel-motel tax advisory committee and directed councilmembers to bring recommended appointees to the next meeting.
Council and staff recalled that the city previously had a standing committee that accepted applications, evaluated invoices and vendor receipts, and made spending recommendations to the council. Councilmembers suggested the committee include hotel owners and other local business stakeholders who would be affected by how hotel-motel funds are spent. One councilmember said he had spoken with Johnny Singh, owner of the city's Chevron, who indicated interest in serving as a representative if the committee is reconstituted.
No formal appointments were made at the meeting; the council recorded that the committee still exists and needs members. Councilmembers agreed to think about nominees and return with names at the next meeting so the committee can begin reviewing applications and recommending uses of hotel-motel funds to council.
