SANTA FE — House Bill 519 would create a board of directors for the African American Performing Arts Center and transfer the duties, personnel and appropriations for the center from the State Fair Commission to that board, administratively attached to the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Sponsor Representative Herndon told the committee the transfer includes "the functions, the personnel, the appropriations, the money, the records, the equipment, the supplies, and other property, contractual obligations from the State Fair Commission" to the new board. The bill would place the board under the administrative umbrella of the Department of Cultural Affairs while the board operates and staffs the center.
There were no public commenters opposed or substantive questions recorded at the committee; the committee moved a do-pass recommendation on HB 519 and the motion passed with no opposition recorded in the hearing transcript.
