Administration advances food truck ordinance updates and readies strategic planning session

City administration presented an updated draft of the food truck ordinance developed by a standing committee and asked the full board to review the changes before formal presentation in April. The committee’s draft incorporates board recommendations; one point of earlier committee discussion was whether police should have enforcement authority for food truck rules. The committee ultimately recommended retaining police enforcement.
Administration asked aldermen to review the ordinance ahead of strategic planning and said the item will be brought forward in the April cycle for further discussion and possible adoption. The mayor and staff emphasized the importance of reaching a broadly acceptable Ordinance because vendors are awaiting clarity on rules and operating guidance.
Separately, staff said the city’s strategic planning session is scheduled and that department leaders and board members have provided priority topics. Logistics for March 22 (committee) and March 27 (committee) and the main strategic planning day were being finalized; staff said location and lunch arrangements would be confirmed soon. Administration also said ongoing ADA-plan updates, sidewalk project closeout work and several departmental project briefings will be part of the planning timeline.
No ordinance was adopted at the work session; the draft will be updated and placed on the regular meeting agenda and discussed during strategic planning.
