Public works also said staff are short one unit in the brush/collection fleet and are adjusting schedules to cover heavy spring volumes. The department reported hiring two employees to return operational capacity after recent personnel losses and that the garage is actively maintaining fleet seals and gaskets that cause leakage when packs are full. The department apologized to residents for intermittent street leakage from older packer units and said they are making daily cleanup efforts until the new truck arrives.
No formal council action was taken; staff said they will pursue insurance replacement and present procurement details when available.
