Hawaiian Gardens City Planning Commission elects Grant Winford chair; approves consent calendar 3-2

The Hawaiian Gardens City Planning Commission elected Commissioner Grant Winford as chair and reappointed Vice Chair Fabiola Hernandez at its meeting on March 5, 2025, and approved the night's consent calendar by a 3–2 vote.

The leadership reorganization came during the first item on the agenda. After the city clerk opened nominations, one commissioner nominated Grant Winford for chair and another nominated Fabiola Hernandez. The commission voted 3–2 to elect Grant Winford as chair, with Commissioner Alvarez, Commissioner Gonzales and Chair Roman voting yes and Commissioner Winford and Vice Chair Hernandez voting no. "I hope I can lead us over this next year," Commissioner Grant Winford said after the vote.

Commissioners then considered vice chair. Vice Chair Fabiola Hernandez was renominated and received unanimous support; the motion carried.

On the consent calendar the commission approved all items as a block. The city clerk said the office had received a letter "from Cox Castle representing Serves City Boats. The letter has been emailed to all the commissioners and placed on the dais for you. The letter requested clarification and or modifications to several of the conditions of approval on the resolution on the consent calendar." Commissioner Winford moved to approve the consent calendar; the motion was seconded and passed 3–2. The roll-call votes recorded Commissioner Alvarez and Commissioner Gonzales as voting yes, Commissioner Winford and Vice Chair Hernandez as voting no, and Chair Roman as voting yes.

No members of the public spoke during the meeting; the commission adjourned after brief commissioner remarks and the completion of agenda business.
