House Judiciary committee adopts amendment to HB 4021 and reports bill to House

The Michigan House Judiciary Committee on the record adopted an amendment to House Bill 4021 and then voted to report the bill to the full House with a recommendation as amended.

Representative Wozniak offered the amendment, saying the original language that allowed a magistrate to "conduct the trial" could interfere with tenant due process and landlord rights and should instead require magistrates to "provide the rights and information at pretrial." "Now that should give both parties the enough information if they need to to go to trial after the magistrate explains all their rights," Wozniak said.

The clerk called the roll on the amendment. The clerk announced, "Madam Chair, you have 11 yeas, 0 nays, and 0 passed." The amendment was adopted.

After the amendment was adopted, Representative Bagole moved to report House Bill 4021 with recommendation as amended. The clerk called the roll on that motion; the clerk announced the tally and declared, "House bill 4021 is reported with recommendation as amended as a new sub." The committee record shows the bill was reported to the House with the recommendation as amended.
