INDIANTOWN, Fla. — Village officials, residents and county staff told the joint meeting of Martin County and municipal leaders that a surge of industrial and housing projects in and around Indiantown is increasing pressure on local water and wastewater systems and is driving a push for new treatment capacity and funding.
Robin Cartwright, a resident who addressed the panel during public comment, warned municipal and county leaders that the village’s existing systems and permits may not be sufficient to support planned growth. "On Monday the city will discuss its consumptive use permit it has with South Florida Water Management District," Cartwright said, citing a 2023 Florida Department of Environmental Protection presentation that projected regional water supplies could fall short of demand over the next 20 years.
