Select Board hears Energy Committee pitch to opt into Massachusetts specialized stretch energy code

The Sudbury Select Board on Jan. 14 heard a presentation from the town’s Energy and Sustainability Committee asking the town to adopt Massachusetts’ specialized stretch energy code as a warrant article for the spring town meeting.
The Energy and Sustainability Committee’s presenter, Rami (Energy and Sustainability Committee), said the specialized stretch code is largely an update to Sudbury’s existing stretch code and is designed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from new construction by encouraging electric-ready and higher-efficiency building practices. “The specialized stretch code really applies only to new buildings,” Rami said, adding that the code requires wiring to make a house “solar PV ready” but does not force homeowners to remove trees or install solar panels immediately.
