Lake Placid CRA approves bench purchase, greenlights six more downtown planters and clarifies procurement rules

Town Administrator Charlotte told the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on March 6 that the town's CRA was established under Florida law to address slum and blight and fund infrastructure and revitalization projects in designated areas.

“The community redevelopment areas are a common government tool for redevelopment in Florida, with the goal of revitalizing areas designated as slum and blight,” Town Administrator Charlotte said, summarizing the state-authorized purpose and the types of eligible projects the CRA plan lists—streetscapes, sidewalks, water and sewer improvements and other infrastructure.

The meeting included three practical outcomes: legal guidance on voting by board members with private business interests, a motion the board approved to spend up to $15,000 on replacement downtown benches, and a separate vote to duplicate six of the flower-pot streetscape installations south of Interlake on Main Avenue using CRA funds moved from a septic-to-sewer line item.
