Arlene Murillo, a current board member, was elected president of the Gadsden Independent School District board during the regular meeting on March 6, 2025. Board members elected Christian Lira as vice president and Rolita Rodriguez as board secretary in subsequent roll-call votes.
Outgoing President Claudia Flores announced she would not accept nomination and moved to reorganize the board under applicable district policy. The board conducted officer elections by roll call as required by district policy and confirmed the three officers; each motion carried by the board’s recorded vote.
Superintendent Dempsey and staff noted the reorganization follows district policy guidance and that administrative records (including updated organizational charts and notices) will be adjusted accordingly. Board members requested staff ensure district publications that print official names (for example, forthcoming diplomas) reflect the change; staff cautioned one high school’s already-printed materials may reflect previous officer listings and will not be reprinted.
The reorganization was entered into the official minutes and staff were directed to update records and notify appropriate partners and services that rely on current officer listings.
