Education Foundation presents student awards, says it will award $517,000 to teachers and students by June

The Education Foundation of Putnam County told the school board it is recognizing student civic contributions and ramping up fundraising to support teachers and students.
Yvette Jones, a foundation board director, introduced board chairman Les Sims and others and said the foundation created a new "Successful Citizen" award this year. The foundation honored two students — Jamie Dockery and Shay Delaney — and presented each with a $250 check. Wayne McClain of Beck Automotive was present and acknowledged as sponsor for the award.
Sims described the foundation's fundraising and grant totals. He told the board the foundation had awarded a little over $315,000 as of the prior month and "to top that off, by June, we will be at $517,000 that we will have awarded this year to the teachers and students of Putnam County." Sims said the awards and grants support scholarships, classroom projects and other student supports.
Presenters described Jamie Dockery's leadership in 4-H and county-level service and Shay Delaney's work organizing a memorial golf event that funds scholarships for Putnam County seniors and a prom-dress lending closet. The foundation said it will continue outreach and invited nominations and sponsorship as it pursues additional fundraising goals.
Board members thanked the foundation for its work and the corporate sponsor for underwriting the awards.
