Oxford council adopts resolution backing state Issue 2 to renew capital improvement program

Oxford City Council on Monday approved a resolution endorsing State Issue 2, a ballot measure to renew the state capital improvement program that will appear on the May 6, 2025 statewide ballot.
The resolution's description said the city has benefitted from the program with nearly $3,400,000 for 13 local infrastructure projects since 2012, including reconstruction of U.S. 27, brick street repairs on High Street and College Avenue, water-main work, bridge and culvert improvements, and traffic signal projects. A staff speaker described that, if renewed by voters, Issue 2 would allow the state to issue general obligation bonds “for up to $250,000,000 per year over 10 years” to fund local infrastructure; staff also said the measure “relies on existing state revenues and does not raise taxes.”
Council heard no public comment on the resolution and adopted it by voice vote. “Just thank you for putting the resolution together,” a councilor said during discussion.
Why it matters: the city and local jurisdictions often rely on state capital-improvement bond funds for road, water and other infrastructure projects. Backers told council the renewal would fund projects across Ohio without raising local taxes.
