New regional workforce advisor outlines partnerships with Rock Hill schools and local colleges

Thomas Monbride, the regional workforce advisor for the Catawba region (Chester, Lancaster and York counties), used the Feb. 25 board meeting to describe his role and early activities connecting industry partners with Rock Hill Schools.
Monbride said two key functions of his position are to “advocate and connect,” and he described work so far including educator-for-a-day visits, coordination with the York County Regional Chamber and a planned pilot that will bring Saluda Trail Middle School students to a local company for a business expedition and facility tour. He described planned professional-development collaboration with York Technical College and Rock Hill ATC to help teachers understand industry needs.
Monbride listed postsecondary partners he intends to work with, including Clinton College, Winthrop University, York Technical College, and University of South Carolina Lancaster, and noted the Foundation for Rock Hill Schools as an existing district partner. He asked board members and district staff to make introductions and said he will be accessible for meetings with schools and community partners.
The presentation was informational; board members thanked Monbride and noted the potential for stronger school-to-work pathways. No board action was taken.
