Daniel Reem, director of FLEX, told the board the athletics program covers 69 sports across modified, JV and varsity levels and asked for increased equipment funding tied to a new state mandate for shot clocks in varsity and JV lacrosse.
Reem said larger-ticket equipment items are coded under the district’s equipment line and cited a new state requirement that varsity and JV lacrosse programs have shot clocks. “Unfortunately, those are, pretty pricey at $6,000,” he said, explaining the district will need at least two new shot clocks for a JV grass field. The equipment line for athletics was presented rising from about $20,000 to $36,000 for 2025–26.
Board members and staff also discussed uniform replacement. Staff noted many vendors discontinue older uniform styles after roughly four years, making replacements difficult if uniforms are retained longer. A board speaker estimated $12,000 would cover a rotation more in line with peer districts and allow the district to retire older, worn uniforms more frequently.
Program costs also include travel, hotel and trainer expenses tied to championship competition, which administrators described as a major variable in the budget depending on which teams advance in postseason play.
The athletics director closed by pointing to the Hall of Fame display and regular costs for maintenance, equipment and championship travel as justifications for the requested increases.
