Dr. Miller presented the proposal, saying elementary offerings include K Camp, second‑grade reading and third‑grade reading, and that the district plans “deep reading” clusters for students further behind. He said the district would submit an estimated budget to the state upon board approval and noted historically the state reimburses a portion of summer school costs; pre‑COVID reimbursements were around 70 percent, later falling near 45 percent, and he expects reimbursement rates to trend upward this year.
Dr. Miller said middle and high schools would not run in‑person summer sections; the high school will promote online summer course options. He also described scheduling choices: most sections will run in June, while Pendleton Elementary intends to pilot a July K Camp. The district will not provide transportation for summer school due to cost; Dr. Miller said previous provision of bus service proved cost‑ineffective compared with parent/neighbor arrangements.
