Pickens County board approves superintendent personnel recommendations and purchases two Central properties

After returning from executive session March 6, the Pickens County Board of Trustees approved the superintendent’s recommendations on personnel matters and authorized the purchase of two parcels adjacent to district property in Central.

The board first voted to approve the superintendent’s recommended personnel actions, which the agenda described as leaves, hires and separations. The board took that vote immediately after exiting executive session; a roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval.

The board then voted to accept the superintendent’s recommendations to purchase two properties in Central. The first property is listed at 1000 Old 6 Mile Road and includes 2.74 acres of vacant land adjacent to existing district property. The second property is listed at 17816 Mile Highway and includes 1.4 acres with a five-bedroom, three-bath house adjacent to the D. W. Daniel football and baseball field. The motion to purchase those parcels passed on a roll-call vote with all members voting yes.

Board members moved into executive session earlier in the meeting “for the purpose of personnel matters regarding leaves, hires, and separations, [and] property matters regarding purchases, sales, leases, and disposals,” the board announced on the record before recessing. On returning, a board member moved and a second was recorded; the subsequent roll-call votes approved the superintendent’s recommendations.

Recorded roll-call results were: Dr. Bagley — yes; Mr. Dover — yes; Mrs. Garrison — yes; Mrs. Kelly — yes; Mrs. Williams — yes; board chair (presiding) — yes. The motions were approved unanimously.

The board then moved and approved a motion to adjourn the March 6 meeting.
