Perkins Library Board members approved minutes from the Dec. 4 regular meeting and were updated on the timeline for a proposed new library building.
A board member moved to approve the Dec. 4 minutes; the motion was seconded and the board recorded affirmative votes. The roll call recorded "Mickey: yes; Matlin: yes; Austin: yes," and the motion carried.
In the director's report, staff said the library has secured funding for the summer reading program and that programming will begin in May. Library staff listed circulating technology items available to patrons as blood-pressure cuffs, laptops and iPads; previously issued mobile Wi-Fi hotspots were discontinued after a grant ended and staff said circulation did not justify continuing them without new grant funding. The director also reported a brief staffing vacancy in the children's services area and that existing staff and volunteers were covering programs in the meantime.
On the new building, a board member reported that the architect had incorporated final suggestions from the project committee and that final plans are expected to be submitted on March 13. The board was told the trust will meet about two weeks after that submission to consider approval so the plans can be forwarded to the city council for its April meeting. No formal action on the building plans was taken at the meeting.
No additional motions or budget votes were taken; the session moved on to routine items and adjourned.
