Hilton Head High School honors dance course recommended to full board by academics committee

Miss McKinsey described the proposed course as aligned with South Carolina Visual and Performing Arts standards and said it requires a student portfolio that includes at least two components mapped to the district’s graduate profile (world-class knowledge, world-class skills, life and career characteristics). The syllabus materials supplied to the committee include pacing, scope and sequence, formative and summative assessments, and performance rubrics.
The application, staff said, requires project-based learning and research; students will choreograph and perform work, develop portfolios, use self-assessment and reflection prompts, and receive feedback from peers and visiting professionals. Miss McKinsey said guest artists and off-site field experiences are planned as part of the honors-level experience.
A committee member moved the following text: "I move that the Beaufort County School District Board of Education approve the courses created for dance honors levels 5 through 8 as presented on 02/25/2025." The motion was seconded and a staff member clarified that the motion was to recommend the courses from the academic committee to the full board.
