Mineola trustees, staff remind residents about property maintenance, landscaper licensing and upcoming community events

The Village of Mineola building department reported 95 electrical, plumbing, commercial and residential permits for February 2025 and reminded property owners and landscapers to comply with the village’s property-maintenance rules and to renew landscaper licenses before the season begins.

The reminders were delivered during the trustees’ public meeting as staff and trustees urged common-sense maintenance of sidewalks and storefronts, and described a village sanitation practice in which the sanitation crew does supplemental cleanup of major commercial arteries after completing route work.

Building department staff said landscapers should submit license renewals to the building department and noted hours of operation: weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; weekends 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents were advised to call the building department if they suspect unlicensed operators.

Trustees used their reports to recap recent and upcoming community events. Trustee Clark said the St. Patrick’s Day parade — described in the meeting as the 75th annual event — was cold but successful and had strong public turnout. Deputy Mayor Sartorius and others reminded residents that pool-pass applications will arrive in mailboxes and be posted on the village website in the next two weeks; the board also discussed seasonal hiring for recreation positions for applicants age 16 and over.

Trustees promoted the Junior’s Pasta Dinner scheduled for Sunday; during the meeting the mayor and trustees identified that event’s hours as noon to 5 p.m. at Village Hall and encouraged attendance to support the junior firefighters.
