Committee forwards sole‑source purchase of Western Psychological Services assessments for EC to full board

The curriculum committee voted March 5 to send a sole-source purchase of assessment protocols from Western Psychological Services (WPS) for the Exceptional Children (EC) department to the full board.
Dr. Rogers explained the purchase covers assessment protocols used by psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists. “We use those protocols for evaluation, to determine eligibility for students, across our 14 disabling categories,” Sarah Staley, assistant director for EC, told the committee. Staff said the protocols are published only by Western Psychological Services and must be replenished or replaced when revisions occur.
Staff estimated last year’s spend at about $13,000; funding will come from existing and new grant money earmarked for related services. Committee members had no substantive questions beyond confirming usage and funding sources.
The committee voted 4–0 to forward the sole-source purchase to the full board for approval.
