The Greenwood Economic Development Commission elected Jerry Spindler president, Lauren Ashby vice president and John Merrill secretary at its March meeting and approved the previous meeting minutes by voice vote.
The vote followed nominations from commissioners. Jerry Spindler was nominated and accepted the presidency; members closed nominations and voted, yielding four ayes on the recorded count. Lauren Ashby was nominated and elected vice president after an initial nomination of John Merrill was withdrawn at Merrill's request. John Merrill was later elected secretary. The commission conducted the elections in sequence (president, vice president, secretary) and closed nominations by motion before each vote.
The minutes for the prior meeting were presented for approval and accepted by voice vote before the elections. Commissioners used a standard roll-call/voice procedure for organizational business; an attorney was asked during the president vote whether a formal ballot was needed despite a single nomination. The attorney's brief consultation did not change the course of the vote.
The newly elected officers will serve for the 2025 term. Commissioners did not attach additional conditions to the elections on the record.
