Largo swears in eight new police officers

The City of Largo swore in eight new members of the Largo Police Department on Feb. 4, a ceremonial step marking their entry to the agency after academy and training requirements.
Police leadership introduced the officers and families during a pinning ceremony. The chief said, “I’m so very proud of our new team members,” and read short biographical summaries for each officer including military service, education and prior public-safety or dispatch experience.
Officers introduced and described on the record included: Tristan Burkhana (background in U.S. Marine Corps service and environmental work; Eckerd College graduate), Madison Stogsdill (Saint Leo University criminal-justice graduate and former dispatcher), Jared Marshall (former Largo dispatcher and communications training officer), Argenis Castro Garcia (U.S. Army veteran, bachelor’s degree in homeland security), Alan McMillan (law-enforcement experience in Louisiana), Abdul AJ Alshaire (U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and prior service with Winter Haven Police Department), Arlene Perez (U.S. Air Force veteran), and Christopher Barry Martinez (prior NYPD and New York State University Police experience). Family members performed badge pinning for many of the officers during the ceremony.
The group recited the oath of office before the commission and completed the pinning sequence. The department said it recognizes the officers’ completion of required training and welcomed them to patrol duties pending any additional field training.
