The Largo Recreation, Parks and Arts Department received recognition for its reaccreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), staff said Jan. 21.
Staff said the department’s original CAPRA accreditation date was 1999 and that it was the first municipality in Florida and the 22nd agency in the nation to be accredited at that time. The department was evaluated in June 2024 and recognized at the National Recreation and Park Association annual conference in October 2024. Staff described CAPRA accreditation as an affirmation that the department follows best business practices across more than 150 standards covering programming, communication, staff development, maintenance, operations and planning.
Commissioners acknowledged the department and members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the work required to maintain accreditation. The item was presented as a ceremonial recognition; no formal vote beyond the usual agenda approval was recorded.
