Southwest ISD discusses intruder-detection audit in closed session, approves audit findings

At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Southwest ISD Board of Trustees discussed intruder-detection audits conducted at district campuses and then considered the audit results in closed session before approving the audit report findings after returning to open session.

District staff told trustees the district had participated in intruder-detection audits intended to test whether a campus is accessible to an unauthorized individual and to identify ways to improve security. Staff said the district would not release specific audit details publicly because doing so could compromise campus security. The discussion was referred to an executive session under sections of the Texas Government Code covering closed meetings on personnel and security-related matters.

After the closed session, the board reconvened and a trustee moved to approve the audit report findings; another trustee seconded the motion. The presiding officer called for the vote; trustees voiced "Aye" and the motion passed.

Why it matters: The audits assess physical security vulnerabilities at campuses; the district said specific findings will be discussed with the district safety and security committee and in executive session to avoid creating security risks if released publicly.
