Board approves roof replacements, certifies unopposed trustee candidate and finalizes election locations

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees on March 1 approved multiple action items, including preventive-maintenance roof replacements and several election-related orders.

Facilities: District staff told trustees the board was approving preparatory work for summer roofing projects so contractors can obtain materials and begin work when school is out. The work covers full roof replacements at Douglas and Jack and a partial roof replacement at Caldwell Arch Academy. Staff said those roofs were installed roughly 20 years ago when the campuses were built in the 2002–04 bond program and that the district has staggered replacements to spread costs. The administration noted one prior roof replacement (Hogg) was funded with ESSER money; the planned summer work will be funded from the district—s preventive-maintenance tax allocation established as a 3-cent portion of the tax rate.

Elections and trustees: Trustees certified an unopposed candidate for single-member District 6, congratulating Mrs. Harrison on her candidacy, and approved an order declaring the cancellation of the trustee election for that unopposed race. The board also approved a supplemental order setting the amended list of early-voting locations, dates and times and the election-day polling places for the general election to be held May 3, 2025; staff said the county elections office supplied final location information the previous day and recommended contacting Gina Orr with questions.

Votes: Board members moved and the motions carried by voice vote for the roofing agenda item, the candidate-certification order, the cancellation order and the supplemental election order.

Ending: Trustees recessed into executive session after consent and action items; staff said they did not expect further public action after the closed session.
