Commission awards bid to replace two Vista Park pavilions; work aligns with parks master-plan maintenance

The City Commission on Jan. 21 approved awarding bid number 2024-13 to Bayhar Construction Inc. of Pembroke Pines to replace two large pavilions at Vista Park.
City Manager Don Decker said the park's shelters were original to the park's 2006 construction and have reached the end of their useful life. Decker said Vista Park Phase 2 planning is underway and the playground will be relocated as part of that larger capital project, so the city is replacing the two pavilions that will remain in place while not replacing the smaller playground-adjacent shelter that will be removed as part of Phase 2.
Commissioners discussed the replacement in the context of the parks and recreation master plan. Decker and commissioners said the pavilion replacement is routine maintenance and was budgeted prior to the master-plan process; it is separate from larger new-capital projects such as a community center or athletic complex. The commission voted 5-0 to award the contract; the motion was moved by Commissioner Mary Molina McPhee and seconded by Commissioner Byron Jaffe.
