Memorial Boulevard study draws 763 respondents; second public meeting set for April 24

CRA staff reported on March 20 that the Memorial Boulevard corridor study survey drew 763 respondents. Staff said the top themes from the first public meeting and the survey responses were (in order): interest in revitalization and economic growth; safety and crime concerns; support for mixed-use development; street and amenity improvements; and support for small businesses rather than large national chains.
Staff said Phase 1 (study and data assessment) is wrapping up and that the Phase 1 report is expected any day; a second public meeting for Memorial Boulevard is scheduled for April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. Staff also said they will open an additional survey ahead of the second public meeting to gather further input.
Separately, staff reported that the Midtown redevelopment plan update and the Dixieland redevelopment plan update have been awarded and that the RFP for the downtown redevelopment plan update has been issued; staff anticipates returning an item on downtown to the CRA board by May.
Board members were reminded the CRA annual report will be presented to the City Commission on April 21 at 9 a.m. and were encouraged to attend. No formal action was taken on the project-update presentation; the board discussed attendance and outreach for upcoming meetings.
