A representative from the Florida Children’s Museum told the Lakeland Neighborhood Association Coalition that neighborhood groups helped increase attendance at the museum’s MLK Day of Caring and invited members to a Lunar New Year celebration this weekend.
“Thank you so much. I am beyond grateful for the support of our neighborhood association coalition for the MLK day of caring,” said Claudine, a museum staff member. She said museum staff estimated attendance at about 2,000 people by combining front-desk sign-ins and partner counts and noted that some attendees may not have been recorded at entrance points.
Claudine said the organization also recently hosted an African American Heritage Celebration and will hold a Lunar New Year event from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, with Chinese American families running activities and local restaurants providing food samples. She distributed flyers and asked neighborhood associations to publicize the event to residents.
Shawanda Bonner told attendees she would forward event data and zip-code-based participation summaries to the NAC via email for members who requested it. The museum representative encouraged neighborhood leaders to continue spreading event information to increase community participation.
