Todd Hammond, executive director of technology, asked the board to approve purchase of an audio intercom system for the central office, describing the current building as lacking a reliable method to message visitors and staff in an emergency.
"Currently, the central office doesn't have a reliable method to message visitors and staff throughout the building in the event of an emergency situation," Hammond said, describing the proposed Audio Enhancement Epic intercom system. He said the system integrates with the district's Syntegix scribe alert system and that the cost is $94,342.70, with funding identified as "East Bloss." The purchase was presented for discussion with approval planned for the board's March 17 meeting.
Board members noted that the central office layout can be difficult to navigate for visitors and asked that the system address audibility and wayfinding. "If anyone in this audience ever been in this building that does not work in this building, you get in this building, you have a hard time trying to get from point A to point B to find your way out," said Mister Jackson, a board member, arguing the system would help in an emergency and everyday operations.
No formal vote occurred; staff will return with the purchase request for board approval on March 17.
