Sarasota district outlines three‑year ELL plan, monitoring and new supports; board will consider plan next week

Sarasota County Schools staff reviewed the district's three‑year English language learner (ELL/ESOL) plan at the March 4 work session and told the School Board they will submit the plan to the Florida Department of Education after the board's review.
"The plan outlines the strategies and procedures that we will use to provide an appropriate education to our ELL students, ensuring that they receive equal access to a quality education," said Megan Parenteau, identified in the presentation as the ELL supervisor, who delivered the high‑level overview.
The plan is organized into sections that include enrollment and the home language survey, placement and assessment, course credit recognition for incoming students, instructional models, statewide assessment participation and accommodations, exit and monitoring criteria, teacher training, and extensions of services.
